Happy New Year! I wish you prosperity, happiness and great health! We have winters that vary in length so it may be a good time to think about winter gardening. What I mean is, we should find out what plants look attractive during our winters when covered by our snow. Plants like these would include conifers, shrubs, trees, and to a degree herbaceous perennials that we have not cut down during the previous autumn! Some species of Clematis seed heads are very attractive during the winter, covered with snow or not, or you may visit Diana's Garden Centre ask questions and see what plants, shrubs or trees give you great ideas!
The somewhat sleepy nature of winter is ideal for you to consider creating a journal or a diary for your garden; this will help you focus more on the plants and flowers that you would consider planting in the spring. Having notes of what you have purchased, what you have sewn, the germination dates the last days of the melting snow and when was the last frost day or what flower blossomed first, when it blossomed and if you may have done anything in particular to help that or any other flower or plant blossom will be an asset to you!
I would also suggest that you would consider inspecting all the items you have in storage for you gardening in spring. Inspect all your bulbs, corms and tubers to ensure that they do not have any rot, like a bad apple they can spoil the whole bunch. Discard the rotted ones and now you will be reassured that all is in order and ready for planting when time comes.
Watching your house plants at this time in the season is great to help them to avoid the onset of fungal disease and insect problems. If you find any please visit Diana's Garden Centre and I will ensure you are well cared for and your plants will thrive!
