March

The beautifully brighter and much longer days of March are here and soon the winter will be gone for yet another year! You should continue to monitor and keep sewing your seeds indoors for future transplanting in your gardens. March is the time that you should sew your annuals, perennials and biennials. This is also the time to start sewing vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflowers, peppers and tomatoes. I would tend to lean toward sewing the vegetables towards the middle of March!

You should have noticed that the Tuberous Begonias that you have stored over the winter will now be finally sprouting, ensure that you pot them in nourished potting soil and keep them under a fluorescent light until the time comes that they are put outside to stiffen up. Don't forget to pot your Dahlia tubers as well, they can be treated the same as Tuberous begonias!

This is the time now to notice if your weather has warmed up if so, it is great time to start pruning some of your shrubs and trees. Keep in mind that you should not prune Birches or Maple trees, for if you do they will certainly bleed from the fresh cuts and not heal, as sap rises during the spring. Pruning theses trees are best suited during the hotter summer months or autumn!

March is the time that all of your indoor plants start coming alive! They will start responding to the longer sunny and brighter days and they will also benefit from more frequent watering and a touch of fertilizer as well. It may very well be time to replant the larger plants that have outgrown their pots. Larger pots with good drainage will help to avoid their roots from becoming waterlogged or developing root rot.

This may be a good time for you to visit Diana's Garden Centre to ensure that you have all the gardening supplies, pot gloves, tools and any other items you may require. You may also want to stop by to get some great gardening advice!
