The sun is here and the temperature is hot! Let us hope that our great weather continues! Now what is it that you may be able to do in this month? Bring in from your beautiful garden those fresh and healthy vegetables and have a lovely dinner! Don't get too bothered by our weeds as they always seem to be the plant that grows the fastest, just keep removing them.
Time to fertilize the dahlias, roses and peonies, don't forget to remove the dead flowers now, as this will help to encourage repeat flowering.
Powdery and downy mildews often quickly cover leaves and young stems, to help prevent this you should clear the excess vegetation so light will be allowed to penetrate and help the air to circulate. This happens mostly in moist areas. Do not forget to completely remove partially or totally infected pieces and then spray with a fungicide to prevent further spread.
You may want to tidy your shrubs by removing old pieces that have died or have finished flowering. Keep in mind that you should continue to watch for insect pests as well or other plant diseases.
You MUST keep your chores to an absolute minimum, relax and enjoy the garden that you have created!
