November

We have hoped you have thoroughly enjoyed your Thanksgiving and Halloween! Now that November is here our gardening activities do not stop, there are still things that we should do! You may not have to do outdoor gardening activities if the snow has fallen but there is plenty of indoor gardening you may do!

Weather permitting you may want to complete the autumn sowing of vegetables such as onions, parsnips and Swiss chard for next spring's germination! You may even finish planting the last arrival of your bulbs.

Remember to keep your herbaceous perennials from the blast of winter winds and snow by covering the crowns with straw, as this works well, or even use leaves. This will ensure a safe winter for your perennials. This will also protect the roots from rot as the plants sit in the wet soil. It is a clever idea if you have Dwarf Rhododendrons (Azaleas) to protect each plant by surrounding them with a wire mesh and filling the empty space with leaves.

Don't forget to keep watching your indoor plants for the invasion of pests! If you have encountered some do what you may to ensure they are removed from your plants!

To keep your gardening desires continuing, it is a great time of year to start concentrating on your inside plants and enjoy these as winter's elements keep you from enjoying the outside ones!
